Escape and indulge in the picturesque woodland surroundings of Clarice House, Bury St Edmunds.
Luxurious, immaculate and well equipped, this spa is a pleasant getaway for a relaxing, invigorating and welcoming retreat.
Located just off the A14 and just a mile away from the town centre is the grand Neo-Jacobean Mansion, which has been carefully restored to provide outstanding spa facilities and a contemporary Health Club.
The anti-aging and revitalising spa package that was recommended for us to try was the ever-popular ‘You’re a Gem.’ This includes a Black Diamond Facial (1 hour) a Crystal Body Harmony (1 hour), full access to the day spa, robe and towel hire with flip-flops, and a delicious two course lunch. There are plenty more packages to choose from, along with customising your own.
I brought my friend Chloe along with me so I could have some company, along with having our treatments in a twin room.
Welcome to Clarice House
We were welcomed into the main bar/restaurant area, in which we were asked to look at the lunch menu and fill out our choices, along with the usual health and safety forms. This was a simple process, and as our first treatment was booked at 10am, we were soon asked if we were ready for our facial. We didn’t have time to change into our robes, but that wasn’t a problem as they were soon brought to us, ready to change into.
We were escorted into the room by our therapists Lucy and Bethany, who talked us through the Black Diamond Facial and our skin needs. The products they use for all treatments is Germaine de Cappucini, a premium Spanish skincare company who provide active natural ingredients with cutting edge technology for an environmentally friendly and professional experience.
The Black Diamond Facial is rich in minerals and has crushes of real diamond to help nourish the skin and increase skin’s luminosity. I could tell my therapist was very experienced, as the massage was professional, elegant, and really loosened up the muscles.
The therapeutic music guided me into contentment, whilst enjoying the cleansing pressure of the massage techniques on the face and neck. The facial consisted of cleansing, exfoliating, toning and moisturising, followed by the application of the black diamond treatment mask, which was incredibly tingly!
I was surprised to also receive a shoulder, scalp and neck massage including some nourishing oil which was worked into my hair. That was indeed pure bliss, and our day had only just begun!
Lunch and The Spa
Our al a carte two course lunch was divine. We were in awe of the huge drinks menu, so we treated ourselves to bucks fizz, tasty pomegranate soft drinks and a big pot of tea for two.
For starters we had Mushroom Chimichurri with haloumi cheese and grapes, along with Chloe having the traditional fish and chips whilst I had the chicken salad bloomer.
After this little break, we spent the next three hours enjoying the spa facilities. This included full use of the swimming pool, spa bath, sauna and steam room. We bought some books and magazines to read whilst lying on the loungers, although we still ended up have a little nap!
Once we got to the spa reception to check in for our next treatment, we were asked to relax on one of the brown leather sofas in a huge open conservatory lounge. We were happy to chill in our robes and read the newspapers whilst we wait for our names to be called out.
Crystal Body Harmony
Our second treatment, Crystal Body Harmony, occurred in the late afternoon. Our lovely therapists, Ellie and Tasha, escorted us to our exquisite twin room. They told us about the treatment, then left us to remove our robes and get under a towel on the comfortable massage bed in preparation.
This holistic treatment began by having colourful hot stones gently placed on the seven chakra points on the body to produce a sense of wellbeing.
We were moisturised, massaged and pressed all over with a body cream that uses extracts of semi-precious stones to firm balance the skin, along with exfoliating powder enriched with Amethyst, Sapphire and Ruby.
My therapist was mindful to focus on kneading the knots in my back; however it wasn’t a painful or uncomfortable sensation. The hardness was medium, which meant I could drift away in the process without the need to yelp in pain!
It was such a luxurious experience, and I felt like a million dollars being pampered head to toe with fine crystals! The different aromas and the comforting sensations allowed me to unwind instantly and forget about reality. I felt revitalised, and would have happily stayed on that warm bed for the rest of the day!
At the end of the treatments they also spritz the room with one of the ‘Le Jardin de Carmen Vidal’ fragrances from Germaine de Capuccini. The one they used for this treatment is called Central Park, in which I loved so much that I bought it for myself to use as a perfume!
The fragrance is delicate and surprisingly seductive, with fresh notes of citrus, velvety middle notes and with all the charms of a secret garden.
Before this spa day I felt lethargic, stressed and experienced tension running through my body. I knew I was in dire need of some pampering and some ‘me’ time. By the end of the day I felt like I was glowing, and could continue my week feeling positive, content and ready for anything!
My favourite product:
I loved all of the products used for the massage, but of course it has to be the Le Jardin de Carmen Vidal fragrance I treated myself to! Now I can carry the scent of my treatments around with me!
The best bits:
You’re a Gem package price: £170 Mon-Thurs/£185 any day. For individual treatments: £64 for Black Diamond Facial and £56 for Crystal Body Harmony.
